From 2004 to 2010 John was the Director of Services Buying for Mars, Inc. North America. He and his team provided buying support to the Pedigree®, Uncle Ben’s® and M&M’S®/Mars Inc. business units. The team assisted well recognized brands like SNICKERS®, “M&M’S®, SKITTLES® candies, and WHISKAS® cat food.
In that role, John led the strategic sourcing of all Media, Travel, Consulting, Market Research, Promotion, Public Relations, Sales Brokerage and Global Ad Agency services for the Region. He managed nearly $1 Billion in annual spending.
John collaborated with regional Directors in Western Europe and Asia Pacific to consolidate global buying strategies and establish performance measurement best practices for MARS, Inc.
John also led the development of a regional buying competency program which ensured continuous improvement/development of purchasing skills for all buying associates in North America.
At various Mars units in the US and Canada, John held increasingly more senior buying roles in Co-manufacturing, Media, Licensing, Sales support, and Packaging buying. Prior to Mars, John gained experience in the meat processing and packaging machinery businesses.
John received his Bachelors degree from the University of Guelph in Guelph Ontario Canada.
